• Photography for intimacy, courage and rawness

My name is Daphne Chan and I'm a Canadian artist, educator, speaker and photographer of Transparency: The Gender Identity Project: http://bit.ly/1HMP7J0 . I'm currently attending the New Media Narratives Program at International Center of Photography.

I'm based in New York City and is available for private commissions.

Each portrait is a collaboration between the subject and the artist and is created through an intimate artistic process resulting in a unique handmade fine art print.

It was a huge honour to be interviewed for the Spring ICP – International Center of Photography catalogue as they choose two artists to feature each issue a few times a year. Thank you to Elizabeth Kilroy, Suzanne Nichols and Karen Furth for the opportunity and your guidance.

A special credit goes to drag activist and art director Sasha Velour of VYM Magazine.

I had the amazing opportunity of having my portfolio reviewed by the iconic Elizabeth Avedon at the powerHouse Arena Portfolio review and she even featured my work on her blog! She was someone in the art world I had wanted to meet for a very long time as I respected her work as a curator and editor. When I showed her work, she was most drawn to my portrait series and compared the use of light to Vermeer. I almost fell off my chair!

The photo you see is a project I started in 2006 called Isolation that features people I’ve met over the years.

Here is her blog.

The Capture Photography Festival was my first Arts institution client and it grew my business development, social media and campaign management client roster. Thank you again to the founder for hiring my company and trusting in the power of social engagement. I’m proud to say that they overshot their goal!
