I’ve been a fan of a photographer named Zack Arias for a while now. He’s an editorial music photographer based in Atlanta. I first heard about him when he taught a studio lighting class at Creativelive last summer. Creativelive, the brain child of photographer Chase Jarvis, is basically an online streaming service in which trained professionals teach various topics. For FREE ! The environment is like a classroom where your computer becomes a desk and the video becomes the professor.
I found out that Zack was teaching a second course at Creativelive and was looking for audience members. On a complete whim, I submitted a video of myself (wearing a wig, no less) blathering on about why I wanted to join Mr. Arias in Seattle. Today, he announced the winners and I was picked! I can’t believe it. I’m in shock. The video was so silly but Zack must have seen something he liked so I’m not going to argue with him.
It’s so weird because I decided this year was the year I was going to put it out there. I told myself, go out there. Be vulnerable. Don’t be afraid to make a fool out of yourself. Make some mistakes. Grow as an artist. Next thing I know, I’m posting my first ever video on youtube and Zack Arias is inviting me to come join him. It’s so powerful when you set an intention and the universe responds. (My brother-in-law would say this kind of talk is for hippies).
